Our reading fair was absolutely amazing... so much thought, work and TLC went into the costumes and boards.

Meet Ashley & Rex! They are Pipidade tadpoles from Florida grown specifically for children to observe the metamorphic process. Their bodies are see through and they move between stages rather quickly! Rex and Ashley both now have their front and back legs. We've stopped feeding them tadpole food (as instructed) so they will absorb their tails. Strange right? If you are interested in your kiddo having an aquatic pet frog, we will have a drawing at the end of the year for Rex and Ashley to find new homes. :)
Students were given 12 pieces of 3x3" red paper and 12 mini red cups. The only instructions shared were to design the tallest stack of cups resembling the Cat in the Hat's hat. Check out their designs!
February is Dental Health Month. Dr. Graff's staff stopped by with an awesome presentation about how to keep our teeth healthy, what braces are and what an orthodontist does for children. Goodie bags were also handed out for our students to take home. Thanks Dr. Graff!
I have a classroom of engineers who planned and created a bow and arrow for Cupid! They were given a specific set of supplies to engineer the farthest shooting arrow propelled ONLY by the bow. I love watching these little brains grow before my eyes. Happy Valentine's Day!
Good Morning! We took our spelling test and then spent some time watching the inauguration on Fox News. My students were so interested and had boatloads of questions. How lucky we are to live in a country where we peacefully & democratically choose our leaders.
Our mission is complete! We visited Navajo Ministries Four Corners Home for Children on Tuesday to deliver the baking ingredients and books we purchased. What an amazing and eye opening experience! The Home for Children operates completely on donor money and donations. They presently house 24 children (age birth to 18) with capacity of 28. The facility was built 63 years ago with many houses on campus, a rec room with pool table and hang out area, a working farm where the children do chores to earn spending money, and a classroom complete with computers, a science area and many resources. Sadly, our district pulled funding for the onsite school so the children attend nearby public schools now. The children are blessed by Mrs. Kelly Hargrove, the director, the house parents, the cook and additional support staff who make their lives safer and offer unconditional love. My students and I were lucky to tour the campus, meet some of the children, visit the boy's home and chat with the onsite house parents. Thank you Jesus for my sweet student's caring and generous hearts. Tuesday was a great day.
http://www.navajoministries.org/our-programs/four-corners-home-for-children/ 14 children at the grocery store was a new experience for me! Ms. Tami, Miss Maggie and I took the kiddos to Smiths yesterday and raided the baking ingredient aisle! We spent $240 and came back to PHA with loads of ingredients to donate. Ms. Tami had a wonderful idea to use the leftover money at our school's Scholastic book fair to choose books to take the the Children's Home too. AWESOME! Each child chose a book they felt was interesting and we threw some extras in also. We now have $.58 left and the kiddos feel pretty proud! Way to go 2nd grade! We'll deliver on Tuesday.
