See those kiddos? They are kind, hard working, generous and are servants of the Lord. They did chores at home and helped family & friends to raise money for us to buy baking supplies to donate to Navajo Ministries Childeren's Home. We counted the donations today and we'll zip over to Smith's Grocery Store, tomorrow, to shop with Ms. Tammy and Miss Maggie. I can't wait to take the purchased items to the children's home next week. Thank you for your help and extra donations moms & dads.

We were hustlin' this week to get our hallway decorations created before it's time to take them down! The students wrote Reindeer Acrostic Poems and made tear art reindeer. I LOVE tear art , although the kiddos moan & groan each time I bring it up. But, seriously, the most adorable pieces of art are created with this technique. Scissors are banned! We also wrapped presents to put under the tree remembering that Jesus is our best gift of the season.
Our Flat Stanleys have visited many places across the United States. We sent a Stanley to the White House and received a package today! Thank you to all the family and friends of our class who entertained Stanley and took him on many adventures.
We had a great afternoon visiting Braylon's Gram and Pop in Aztec. They taught us how to press apple cider from the apples grown on their property. As you can see in the pictures, Carlos and Zayden had to use their muscles to squeeze all the juice from the chopped up apples. This was the fancy, new press with an electric chopper. They also own a press (which Gram used as a child) that is operated by turning a wheel. After everyone took a turn turning the crank to press the apples, we sampled the cider; it was delicious! Thank you so much for inviting us to your home Gram & Pop and Kehli & Braylon Phelps!
We enjoyed making home made root beer for floats on Halloween.
The dry ice made the root beer fizzy and slushy... so tasty! I absolutely LOVED visiting the Durango Nature Center. The kiddos were very involved and asked thoughtful questions. Here are a few snapshots from our day. Thanks to all you mamas and dads that were able to join us. Sorry for the delay in posting. I could not seem to get the photos to load without flipping upside down! Aren't I lucky to teach such a cute bunch of kiddos? In preparation for our Durango Nature Center field trip, a teacher from the center came to our classroom to pre-teach animal adaptation concepts. She brought animal pelts and skulls for our little scientists to observe and collect clues while trying to determine the animal name. We discussed carnivores, omnivores and herbivores as well as the habitat of the nature center.
Friday, we worked with the 3rd & 4th graders on a STEM activity (science, technology, engineering, math) called Animal Launcher. Each student was given 6 supplies, which they had to use at least 2 of, to create a launcher for their safari animal. Students could not ask for help or additional supplies! :) Once the 20 minute work time was up they competed, 5 at a time, to see who could launch their animal the farthest!
Fall is officially here; my favorite time of the year! Saturday, October 22 is Pinon Hills Academy's Fall Festival. Each class is in charge of running a game booth for the day; I chose the Pumpkin Toss. If you are available to volunteer for a 1 hour time slot to manage our booth, please text me. Thanks so much! Hopefully your family will be able to enjoy the day- we will have a pumpkin patch, booths with treats and items for sale as well as game booths (free of charge) for the kiddos! |
